One of the best things about springtime is fresh asparagus. My favorite way to have asparagus used to be roasted, until I air fried asparagus (I am able to get more even cooking, in a faster time). Now, with asparagus being in season, my family devours Simple Air Fried Asparagus weekly. Asparagus has a bright and earthy flavor that is quite unique.
Remove woody ends of asparagus, usually about the last 1.5-2 inches (more if they still are dry and woody). Discard dry/woody ends.
Cut asparagus in half, place in large bowl.
Pour oil and salt over asparagus, toss to coat.
Separate asparagus into 2 batches (see note regarding diameter and cooking time), placing one of the batches into the air fryer basket, in a single layer.
Cook asparagus at 400F in air fryer for 6-10 minutes depending on thickness of asparagus. Thinner/"pencil thick" asparagus will take closer to 6 minutes, while thicker/"thump thick" asparagus will take closer to 10 minutes. Toss asparagus half way through cooking time. You can check on your asparagus as it gets close to finishing to determine if you would like it more or less cooked.
Remove from air fryer basket, and put onto plate.
Repeat cooking with second batch, altering cooking time if thickness if different.
You will have more even cooking time if all pieces in a batch are about the same diameter. Thinner/"pencil thick" asparagus will take closer to 6 minutes, while thicker/"thump thick" asparagus will take closer to 10 minutes. I try to use asparagus that is about 1/2 inch thick, which takes me about 8 minutes.
For this recipe, it was tested with a 5.8Qt GoWise Air Fryer. Your cooking times may vary with other air fryers.
